Everybody puts off making plans for the inevitable, but membership of a synagogue is the sensible way to guarantee that when the time comes, everything will be done, speedily, efficiently, compassionately and in accordance with Jewish law and custom. We bury at the Western Cemetery at Cheshunt, close to the junction between the M25 and the A10, a 25 minute drive from Barkingside.
We run our own Funeral Scheme; an element of all subscriptions is securely invested to cover funeral costs. Another small annual sum (“Ground Fees”) is paid via Liberal Judaism (LJ) to cover ongoing maintenance and staff costs at the cemetery. Cremation is an option if required. Our funeral scheme covers the cost of members and their children under the age of 21, one mourner’s car and the services of a minister for both the funeral and Shiva services. No other payment is required at the time of death.
Our scheme offers excellent value for money, especially in view of the current cost of a Jewish funeral for non-synagogue members. All the details are set out in the booklet that is given to members, and is available on request from the shul office. Termination of membership terminates all rights under the funeral scheme.
