Services

Services are at the heart of our synagogue, when the community joins in regular prayer. Shabbat services are Friday night at 8pm and Saturday morning at 11am. They last for a little over an hour and are followed by tea/coffee or a kiddush.

Children are encouraged to attend all services. Indeed, we believe that attendance at services is an essential part of every Jewish child’s religious education. In addition, we hold a monthly Family Service with the aim of encouraging the participation of children.

In keeping with the practices of Liberal Judaism, men and women sit together and women are encouraged to play a full and equal part in all synagogue ritual.

We use Siddur Lev Chadash, which was published by Liberal Judaism in 1995. This prayer book combines the best of familiar and traditional prayers, with much contemporary and relevant new material. We maintain a balance of prayers said in Hebrew and English, with enthusiastic singing (and regular page number announcements!). The emphasis is always that those who join in our congregation should understand what they are praying, learn more about their rich and precious religious heritage, and come away feeling spiritually enriched.
